Why is Rialto City Water doing this?
On May 5, 2015, the State Water resources Control Board (“SWRCB”) adopted emergency regulations to achieve a 25% statewide reduction in potable urban water use. These stringent water use regulations will require Rialto City to reduce the amount of water that is being used.
To achieve the Drought Compliance Goal, Rialto City has initiated numerous drought conservation programs and conducted a series of monthly community workshops to provide information to customers. To achieve the desired reduction, customers will need to immediately reduce the amount of water used for outdoor landscape purposes by 50% to 60%. That is where the Skydrop comes in. It will reduce up to 50% of water used for outdoor landscape purposes.
Is this mandatory?
No, it is not mandatory but because of the drought and the mandated reduction of water by the State, it is strongly encouraged.
Do I have to pay anything?
No, you are not obligated to pay for anything. Rialto City has paid for the basic service in full. There is an optional service called the Skydrop Plus membership. It is very popular with residents because of the added features. It is currently 40% off for Rialto residents only.
What has Rialto City paid for?
Rialto City has purchased everything you need for your home to be set up properly. This includes a Skydrop panel and if needed a zone expander, outdoor enclosure, and a Wi-Fi booster.
Is this a scam?

Is the government going to be able to spy on me?
No.
Will the water district be able to control my sprinklers?
No.
I like to be in control of my water settings. Will I still be able to do that?
Yes. After professional installation and programming, your Skydrop controller will be able to manage your yard for you without any interference or adjustments from you. But if you want to tweak it and manually control things, go right ahead. You can do so from your phone, tablet, computer or the panel itself.
I am used to what I have and I am afraid of new technology. Is this hard to use?
No. It is very easy to use. If you can send a text message you can use the skydrop. If you don’t know how to send a text message…well, we will teach you how to do that once we install the Skydrop panel.
